It’s the little things!
Our TKD association recently decided to transition to BLACK pants. The plan is to move to black with a white stripe, but for now everyone is being encouraged to buy black, as they buy new. You are not required to by the black at all, but I could NOT resist.
How awesome is that?! There is not a bigger nightmare then a 4 year old or a 6 year old in WHITE pants 2-3 times a week. THANK ATA.
That’s not the ONLY TKD news we have, though. Our school also offers something called Jiu-JitSu. Simplified, it’s martial arts wrestling. Will started that last night. He expressed an interest about 6-8 months ago but there weren’t any other boys his age taking it. You must have someone close in size and gender to you, at least for the kids. Gender is for everyone. Can you imagine? No thanks. Hahah.
Anyways, another family joined our school in October and I’ve only recently started talking to the mom. She has 3 kids in Jiu-Jitsu, including a 5.5 year old. He usually ends up teaming with his older brother or the instructor which is not practical. I was very excited to hear he needed a partner. Will has not stopped talking about it. Will has decided to just tell his friends it’s wrestling though because they are really confused when he says grappling or Jiu-Jitsu. Cute.

I’ve thought about putting Charlie in some form of marital arts this summer to see if he likes it. I know 2 of his cousins are doing something but can’t remember what exactly. Right now we’re trying out flag football.

@Elizabeth, ANY form of martial arts would be IMMENSELY rewarding; but I recommend seeing if there is an ATA TKD in your area. I’m a little biased though!
This link should help you find one 🙂

Oh yes, even though I have no kids, I can definitely see the value of not having to do their white laundry!!!

cool! I have 3 kids in martial arts, and I never really thought about the pant colors, but our studio has black pants 🙂 Sounds like a nice program, ours is kind of a small style- it’s called Pakua and I couldn’t even begin to describe it. I picked it because frankly, it was close by and I was already doing too much driving!! The kids love it, the master is running them around which I love, and they seem to be doing well.
it’s the little things, huh? 🙂

@Jenn @Home is Where You Start From, It is the little things. Who would have ever guessed that black pants would make a room of mother’s and wives so giddy!!?

I am so jealous of the black pants! My kids (and my husband who is their assistant instructor) all wear white and I do an awful lot of laundry. :o(
We just came back from Louisiana last night from a tournament, it is so much fun for the kids and I can never believe how much they learn from it.

@Shannon, MAYBE your school will switch some day? I know ours has to appeal to a broader range of people. (I think that’s what I heard)

I’m a big martials arts fan. It’s great to see schools combining different martial arts together. And you can see how TKW and BJJ together. They are very complementary since TKW doesn’t have the ground fighting element whereas BJJ doesn’t have the kicking element.

Awesome! I love both sports – I’ve done both! TKD in my teens, and BJJ for over 3 years now, absolutely love it!
