Everyone is talking about meal planning and budgeting their grocery shopping. I thought I would share some of my “go to” meals when making my weekly menu. We really try to have at least one new recipe per week so this list keeps growing, so I know there are at least another dozen or two but for whatever reason I can not recall what they are right now:
- pancakes and bacon (bacon isn’t really budget friendly but we love it and always have it on hand. We do this maybe once or twice a month)
- tony chachare seasoned pork chops cooked with pam in the skillet – serve with a veggie and rolls or potatos and a veggie
- pasta and jarred sauce – SUPER easy. I also make my own garlic toast by toasting regular bread in the toaster, melting butter in the microwave, adding garlic and onion powder to it and brushing onto the toast.
- Scrambled eggs and toast (a rarity but yummy and easy)
- BEST EVER Roasts in the crock pot.(all you need is one pack of ranch powder, one pack of italian dressing powder and one pack of brown gravy powder) season, add water (about 1/3 cup) and veggies.. Cook all day on low.
- Tacos – Chicken or beef. Soft or hard. WE vary it up to keep it fun
- Beans and rice (pinto, seasoned with garlic and onion, cooked fresh all day)
- Leftover beans, smashed and put into a tortilla with cheese to make bean burritos or quesadillas. Sometimes we add chicken. ALWAYS use cheese 🙂
- Navy beans and cornbread (again cooked all day, homemade)
- WE pick up a rotisserie at least once a month and serve it with fresh french bread and salad and use leftovers 2 days later
What some of yours?! How often do you try NEW dishes?

Sadly I have an extremely picky eater in my husband. Our go to meals tend to be steak/pork chops plus veggies and occasionally chicken.
I do try new recipes a few times a month, usually when it’s just Charlie and me if it is something like a casserole. I do try new side dishes occasionally too.

Our go-to meals are usually pasta. We do lemon pasta with broccoli, pasta tossed with artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes, and tortellini with Parmesan. All the same basic base – garlic, olive oil, salt, and basil. My kids love it. We’ll also do egg burritos for breakfast, quesadillas or build-your-own tacos for lunch.
If I’m really tired, I’ll even just do raw veggies, fruit, and a turkey sandwich or grilled cheese sandwich. Kids are so easy.

We evidently like a lot of the foods you do. We do breakfast for dinner at least once a month. Lots of pasta, salads, mexican. I do omlets for dinner sometimes. I try to do a new casserole once a month. We have to be careful because we love high calorie foods so have to eat a few lean cusine’s every now and then!
