I usually listen to anything and everything. Recently the lyrics to some of my FAVORITE songs started slapping me in the face though. I realized that William is getting older and will be able to start understanding has started understanding what is being said and ask questions about it.
All this came about last summer when he was singing the lyrics to “I gotta feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas. It kind of shocked me and over last 6 or so months I’ve been thinking more and more about it….
When did you STOP listening to questionable songs?
There are several songs that I’m not sure matter but watch THAT be the song he asks about or repeats at the wrong moment.

I try to not listen to that music at all – regardless if the kids are around or not. I feel happier and more at peace when I listen to Christian songs. There are plenty of upbeat dance-able songs that I crank up and the kids and I clean and have a fun time grooving to the music. In the car we listen to K-LOVE Radio and listen to it often at home via their live streaming audio.
I think it’s important that we walk the talk even before we ‘gotta feeling’ that they are understanding whats around them. I know I gave my kids less credit then they deserved and they knew what was going on well before I realized they did.

Music is a very important part of my life; I can’t NOT listen to it. Christian music can be wonderful but not all the time. No way. I need a variety even if it is “if you are happy and you know it”.

I believe VERY soon. For us it’s not so much music as it is TV. The Boss ADORES Cleveland Brown and The Family Guy since they are animated and loud but I really think the time has come to cut that off completely as he doesn’t understand it, but will soon repeat things!

We haven’t stopped listening to “questionable” music and don’t intend to. I don’t particularly believe in that type of censorship. If it’s extremely graphic (music, tv, videos), we either wouldn’t really like it anyway or would not indulge when the kids were around. But otherwise, anything goes. Music is music and we listen to a great variety of it from classical to 80s to Big Band.
Example of the above: The girls and I often sing all together in the car to Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance. I’m sure we sound like cats on a fence but we all have tons of fun.
