I originally wrote this in Dr. Past’s English class, in Fall 2001, while attending CBC.
It’s a mini biography of my life, to that point. WHo wants to take a peak?
On January the 15th 1981 in the small town of Shiner, Texas my mother gave birth for the ninth and final time. That’s where I fit in. Ironically just over a month later my niece was born. I have four older brothers and four older sisters as well as two stepsisters, a stepbrother and a half brother. This of course makes it easy to see where a niece would come in so soon after I was born. She turned out to be number one of twenty to count.
My parents divorced before my second birthday and both have been remarried for as long as I can remember. When I was in kindergarten I had a sister die of an aneurysm. She was eighteen and newly married. I still remember details of the funeral. Since then I have encountered more than my share of deaths among loved ones.
The rest of elementary was fun, not my favorite at the time but now I wish I were there again. Everything was so simple. Decisions were based on whom to play with and whether or not to drink chocolate milk or stick with white milk at lunch.
By the time I reached High School I was more than ever eager to get out of school and be out on my own. What little did I know. I had no clue being an adult would be what it has turned out to be. Once again, what I wouldn’t give to be that age again.
Towards the fall of my junior year my mom and I started having problems getting along with one another, so I moved in with my dad. I made new friends and in May of 1999 graduated in the top third of my class. I’m positive I could have excelled had I only studied more. Instead my job came first, than school. I still made As and Bs, but wish I could have been more focused. Immediately following graduation I started school at Lamar University-Orange for Summer I, and in the fall I enrolled at Lamar-Beaumont. As soon as classes started I moved in with my best friend.
In September of 1999, my life took a dramatic turn that has forever changed me. I was a victim in a car accident at left me paralyzed. I was only in the hospital for eight weeks and upon discharge moved back in with my mom. That may seem like a long time, but for the injury I received it’s not typical. Over the past year and a half I have gone thru many struggles and have been enlightened in more ways than anyone can know.
The biggest, yet, most amazing struggle so far has been learning to drive again with hand-operated pedals. I must say I am rather enjoying the freedom driving again brings.
The best times of my life have been the past two and a half months. I met a wonderful man from Austin that means the world to me. We are both very much in-love and in June 2002 look forward to spending the rest of our lives together as husband and wife.
A few things have changed since I wrote that. We did not get married in June 2002, instead in December and that grandkid count has increased by about 4 or 5. Oh, and the struggle to learn to drive? A piece of cake now.

Priscilla, I love this! What a flashback to go back and read old stuff. So interesting about driving. It’s amazing what we can teach ourselves to do, right?
