True story.
So, have you read The Hunger Games?
No?
Well, you should.
I bet you are wondering what The Hunger Games has to do with me parking in a fire lane? Legally?
Okay. Okay. I’ll tell you. Geez.
So it was opening weekend and I really wanted to go see it. Charlie had just started so he couldn’t go. I didn’t really want to go alone. My friend Kelly posted something about sneaking out so I called and guess what? She was game. We bribed our husbands and headed out.
It was a mad house.
There was absolutely no where for me to park. I need a handicapped spot. They were ALL full. All 15 or so of them. Crazy.I have to be able to open my door ALL THE WAY to get my chair out. No other spot would do.
I was going to mention this and totally forgot. Kelly had to park about 1/2 mile away in a completely different parking lot. It was THAT crazy. Seriously.
I called Kelly and told her I was going in circles trying to find a spot.
She went to the ticket counter and guess what??! Apparently they have a REAL police officer that works on Fri-Sunday. He went up and down the aisle to make sure everyone was parked legally and when it turned out they were (Pffft…. I bet…..) he told me just to park in the fire lane and he’d moved my van when something opened up.
So I did. I pulled up and he stood in traffic while I got my chair. I handed him my keys and made my red carpet entrance in to see The Hunger Games.
I wonder how many people thought we were celebs? I mean we parked illegally, with permission and had an officer valet for us?!

That is too cool!
I have not read the Hunger Games yet…we are very close on the waiting list at the library for it. My husband and I did see it, but I want to read the book, then have my boys read the book before they watch the movie. There are some seriously deep discussions that we need to have about the whole idea of children, killing children and what that means (politically and religiously) in our family.

Yes, My son is only 7 and WILL NOT be reading these books for quite some time, and by then there is a chance they will not be “popular”, but if they are …. LOTS and LOTS of talking.

Hey, you’re a star to me, so of course they had to roll out the red carpet.
Now if we could just do something to redesign all theatres with good handicap seating. 😉
It should also be noted I had to park about a three minute walk away – in front of an entirely different business – that is how full the parking lot was.
We should sneak out again.

I have to admit, that is pretty frigging cool! And that officer sure was nice about it all. A lot of times, they just couldn’t be bothered.
Priscilla says
He was by far, the most polite officer ever.

Way cool. With a little notice, I’d have played you a trumpet fanfare!
