This post is going to sound really random and awkward but just keep reading. It will make sense. I think.
The only person that naps in this house is the baby and I am sure I am on borrowed time with him.
I was reading my friend Sam’s blog last week and I found a post about a Homeschool mom’s journey. I bought the book on kindle for the ipad and started reading it right away.
She talked about how her year transformed and one of the best things she did was make her kid’s do chores.
Will already does a few. His biggest job is putting the dishes away.
When the trash isn’t too full and heavy I make him take that out too.
I need to figure out WHAT to have Lucas do.
I need to have the boys put their laundry away.
We should probably set 10 minute timers for cleanup (2x/day). (stolen from book)
The other morning the boys were playing like boys do but Will just melted down. Completely. It was because he was struggling with something so I helped him and he felt inadequate because of it.
Then and there I decided I must do something else the mom in the book does. Naps. Keep in mind my big boys have not napped in forever, except for the rare occasion they feel asleep in the van, so this is going to be a challenge. Right?!
Well, not if I call it quiet time.
It’s only for 30 minutes and they have to do it at separate times. I’ll set a timer. The boy in quiet time is allowed to read/look at books in his room and NOTHING else.
We will see how this goes.
We have to make a few changes around here if we are going to have a sane and enjoyable homeschool year.
