Shopping for my wedding dress was a piece of cake!! I immediately knew what I wanted, the dress shop had ONE dress that matched every bit of criteria and it was PERFECT!
I wanted it to be 2-piece (shocker!!), beaded and have organza.
My advice if you are newly engaged, in a wheelchair and looking for a wedding dress?
Go with a 2-piece. Why 2-piece? That works best for the chair. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. One-piece dresses are not usually your friend unless they have stretch to them. They will tug and pull and you will be uncomfortable. You will want to avoid a long train. If you desperately want a beautiful train, find one that is detachable or easily modified to be detachable so you can attach it to the back of your chair. Why? No one will see it if you are sitting on it :). I think if you just keep mind the basic rules you normally use for dressing, you will succeed. The only issue will be one EVERY bride faces. Chair or not. Finding THE dress.
I think it’s quite lovely, if I do say so myself!! The dress is by Mori Lee and I still love it today. In fact, I wore it about 2 years ago when a friend was starting up a wedding venue!
I never had REAL bridal portraits done so I was thrilled at the oppurtunity. This was my favorite from the session.

You were a gorgeous bride!!! I love that dress too, and think a 2 piece wedding gown is a genius idea for anyone! The site looks so good too, I love the color scheme!

GORGEOUS, Doll! You look absolutely stunning! When I got married, I actually didn’t do the whole white dress thing, but had I, I *SO* would’ve gone this route. I love it. I would think that more women would choose two-piece dresses, as so few of us (disabled or otherwise) are rarely one size top-to-toe. I just wanted to ask, though — did you do the whole train-on-the-back-of-the-chair-thing? I saw it on television and thought it was quite fun. Obviously, it would have to be removed for dancing and whatnot. That’s one thing I adore about your dress — we would be able to dance the night away in that sweet little number!
Anyway, great job, and stay fabulous!
XOXOXO,

Thank you! I think 2 piece anything is genius. I did not do a train. We ended up having a VERY small – semi elopment wedding. . . I’ll link the story later.
I would have attached a train to the back though. The dress didn’t have one but I would have had one made.

Hello to all, my name is Janet. I too was married while using a W/C for mobility. I had been in an automobile accident 3years earlier, on the night of my high school prom. I incurred a spinal cord injury at T5 resulting in paraplegia. I had been dating Tommy prior to the accident and he refused “to go away”. I am one lucky girl he didn’t listen to me!!
We were married April 7. 1970. It was a blessing that my mother was a seamstress. She created my dream of a wedding gown, custom fitted to accommodate the W/C.
We honeymooned in Sea Island, GA and then settled into life in Fort Walton Beach, FL. Tommy was in the USAir Force. The men and women in his area were like having “instant” family. Every weekend was a trip to the beach, a Bar B Q, a birthday party or just plain fun. Life was very good!
