It’s the day before surgery and I’m trying to stay busy.
I know this is a very important procedure but surgery is surgery and I know no matter what my baby will be in some short-term pain.
I got a phone call around 11 AM from anesthesiology to pre-register him. I got the call from the actual surgery center a couple of weeks ago.
The actual surgery center called around 1 and me all the important times I needed to know. Surgery at 10. Be here at 9. No food after 1am. No clear liquids after 7am.
I was a nervous wreck all day and my evening was a reflection of that.

Now it’s surgery day.
I went to sleep easily but when the baby woke up in the middle of the night? That was another story. I guess my wine wore off. Oooops.
I woke up this morning with an extremely nervous stomach. I feel like I’m going to vomit and who knows what else. I don’t know why such a routine surgery has me SO rattled.
When we got Lucas in the car we realized his shirt was caked in more blood than usual. Thankfully they will be taking care of that as well.
We checked in and when the pre-op nurse called us back I immediately felt at ease. She was sweet as she could be. The anesthesiologist his nurse and his doctor’s nurse were also fabulous.
They ask us questions and they ask him questions. They also let him jibber jabber all he wanted which was great. He kept talking about his ninjago pajamas. They offer flavored anesthesia which was fun – he picked cherry. They also told him he would get to have a rainbow popsicle for breakfast after was over.
They assured us that they wouldn’t start his IV until after he was out so he wouldn’t have to feel the needle going in. YAY!
The moment they took him back I thought i was going to cry but I didn’t.
Our recovery room was ready about what time the surgery was over. The doctor came back and said everything went perfectly well.
The funny thing was he told me that he wouldn’t stop jubber jabbering even when they had the anesthesia mask on his face. They could still hear the mumbling and talking until he slowly drifted away.
It took a couple of hours before he was fully “awake” from the anesthesia but by then he was fully alert you’d never tell he just had surgery.
Later tgat afternoon Lucas asked grandma if she was going to be will and Nathan’s mommy while their real mommy was here.
Our night in the hospital went very smoothly and we were out & on our way home by 7 am.
