First things first. I want to tell you about an AWESOME project my new friend Revecca and an organization called Backbones created for the world to see.
This is a traveling photo exhibit, Reinventing the Wheel, featuring 22 DIFFERENT people with spinal cord injuries, showing how they have gone on to lead NORMAL lives. They have happy lives. They work. They have families.
I am not one of the participants but I have several friends that are and I would LOVE it if you would attend, if you live near one of the stops.
They are kicking off the exhibit in Chicago later this month and moving on to Portland in October, and they are working on stops in LA and NYC for 2014. I will certainly let you know if they add any other cities to their schedule.
I hope to find a way to personally visit the exhibit so I can tell you more about it.
I’m sure it’s going to be incredible.
So who is Backbones and who is Revecca?
Revecca started Backbones.
I was first introduced to Backbones sometimes last year but so many things got in the way and I was unable to truly connect. I kept them in the back of my mind and often thought about them and how they did what I’ve always wanted to do.
I’ve always had a huge desire to find others with a similar injury as mine, but I never knew how to go about it. I knew a few people online but that wasn’t what I was looking for. I get emails from time to time, answer questions and offer encouragement, and people see me in my daily life on my blog but it’s not quite what I had in mind either.
I finally saw a little break and contacted Nick and he connected me with Revecca. She told me all about their mission. One of the things they do is connect people with SCI (spinal cord injury) for 1 to 1 peer support.
Perfect.
Then she told me about their ambassador program and I was eager to hear more. You’ll have to wait to hear more about it, but I’m excited to get involved.
Do you live in Chicago, Portland, LA or NYC???
