When I read this prompt at the beginning of the month I was certain I was going to write about the wreck again.
I’ve chosen to SKIP that, you’ve read enough about ME this month and I plan on a not so fun series in September where it will fit in quite well.
Instead I am going to write about THE TWINS.
Surely, if you’ve been around here long enough you’ve seen reference to them.
First off, if you do not know who they are, they are my nieces.
THEY. ARE. NOT. MINE.
I will sometimes refer to them as mine, and I love them like they are mine but they are very much my sister Karen’s girls.
They will be 18 this July and that makes me want to cry tears of so many mixed emotions.
Brittany is graduating tonight (Friday, May 31st) and her twin sister is due to have a baby sometimes in the next 5 days (give or take).
It seems like yesterday when my sister was pregnant with them and we knew they were going to come any day.
She was full term and huge, after all she was carry over 12 pounds of baby.
We’d slept at her house a few nights already but the night it happened is one I VIVIDLY remember.
It was early in the morning, the sun wasn’t quite up yet, and my sister came into the living room where my mom and I were sleeping.
She stepped over me to say something to Mom and was on her way back into the bedroom.
She lifted her leg to step back over me and quickly put it down.
Her water broke.
ALMOST ON ME.
The rest of morning was a whirlwind, trying to wake my stepdad up and getting to the hospital quickly AND SAFELY.
They didn’t come right away and Little Miss Tiny Tot Mommy-to-be Alison was born 33.5 MINUTES (NOT SECONDS) after Prom Queen Brittany.
There isn’t a thing these girls could ever do to change my opinion of them.
I love them unconditionally.
I’m proud of the women they have become.
It scares me that MY own boys will be going through similar things before I can even blink.
Here are a few of the pictures I was able to find on my hard drive. I have hundreds of pictures of them in albums and boxes, they were born BACK IN THE DAY – you remember, before digital cameras were invented.
