I remember watching Dirty Dancing with my cousin Liz many time in 1992. I think we watched it almost every time I went to stay with my Uncle Pat and Aunt Donna, which was quite often. On one hand that was a good thing, but on the the other it wasn’t so great because my grandma was very sick and died that year.
When my friend Traci invited me to go see the musical with her I jumped at the chance for a little nostalgia. I’ll be honest. I never watched it in one entire sitting so it never made much sense. I guess at 11 it wouldn’t and I just thought the dancing scenes were great because, well, they are. I still won’t get into the story lines, I just don’t get into those debates here.
I was shocked at how busy the show was, all the convenient handicapped spots were taken so I ended up having to Valet. I didn’t have cash so Traci had to run to the ATM in front of the hall to get cash for me. The guys were so apologetic about not having an accessible drop off. It was actually comical. While we were waiting for Traci to get back, I was their main focus, to the point of being rude to other customers. I told them I was just fine and really didn’t need assistance.
The performance was fantastic. Baby was a perfect fit. They couldn’t have picked a better actress.
Of course, I had to come home and watch the movie, in one sitting. It was sad to see Patrick Swayze so young and healthy, know he’s gone now. I don’t usually pay attention to actors that die, but again, the whole year my grandma was sick thing.
I was impressed with how much they included in the musical. Thank you so so much Traci for inviting me to join you. I can’t wait for our next show!
