Remember the week we moved? No? Well I do. 😉 Of course!
Charlie took off that week and we packed, packed some more and took a mini trip to San Antonio.
Our hotel room was upgraded to the Governer’s Suite because they were out of “Accessible” rooms. What that really means is they were out of rooms with slightly wider doors, grab bars by the toilet and a roll in shower. My chair is narrow so that’s not really a concern for me.
We took the boys to explore the Alamo. It was about 3-4 blocks from our hotel so we just walked/rolled. I haven’t been in over 20 years so it was all “new” again.
We were starving after exploring the Alamo and took the advice of a long term local and ate at Acenar, a yummy restaurant on the Riverwalk. A small Mariachi band came by and they played “La Bamba” for me! Everything was amazing. We will definitely go back and I HIGHLY recommend it over all the chains that litter the Riverwalk. I’m not one for “kid-friendly” specific restaurants. There are plenty of options out there that don’t directly cater to kids but are still family friendly. This definitely fit our criteria.
We were on our way back to the hotel after dinner and planned to stop for a riverboat tour. We were told they were shutting down because the weather was getting bad; not 5 minutes later it started to pour. Riverboats were lining up to drop people off and the area where we were standing was getting crowded. There was lighting and thunder and no one wanted to walk out in it. This went on for about 30-45 minutes and things finally let up enough so everyone decided to make the trek back. We finally made it up to street level and we heard gushing water and screams. The dinner tour boat had apparently NOT come back before the storm and was caught in the downpour and now rapid waves on the river. You can see it going sideways in the bottom picture. We were certain it was going to get stuck or capsize. It did not.
We finally got the kids to bed and the next morning went BACK to the Riverwalk for brunch at Ostra. They had AMAZING vanilla malt pancakes. You should definitely check them out. Nathan cried himself to sleep because we weren’t able to go on a Riverbaot tour the night before so guess what else we did?!
Would you be shocked if I said we ended the BUSY mini vacation at SeaWorld (Lucas rode the Shamu Express about 5 times.)?

Next time try a meal at Rosario’s, a couple blocks toward the King William district. It’s family friendly and also has outstanding, upscale Mexican food–not expensive, either!
Al´s last blog post ..Distant Cousin a movie? It could happen! (PART 2)
