We lost my stepdad early Thursday morning, but he was surrounded by people that loved him and he was not in pain when he took his last breath.
It was a long battle. It was painful and frightening but we surrounded him so he knew he wasn’t fighting alone.
I will always treasure last week.
My boys were able to steal a few moments with him every single day this week. They were able to tell him they loved him, and even when he only blinked, grunted or smiled, they knew he was loving them back.
The best gift I can give to them was this time with him.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your step-dad. I know it has been a long painful journey lately, but we are glad that you and your children got to spend some quiet time with him this past week. No doubt that it meant the world to him to get hugs every day. We’ll pray for all of you next Sunday at church.
I’m very sorry for you loss. Wonderful that your children got to be with him. Being with someone at the end of their life is something they will never forget.
My mother passed the day before your step-father. Unfortunately she was in a coma for 15 days and only one of my kids got to see her before she was gone.
